Prevention and Treatment of Gum Disease

Cranford Dentist

Gum disease is a serious condition that can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. Our experienced team diagnoses periodontal disease through a thorough examination, which includes checking the depth of the gum pockets between your teeth and gums. We also look for signs of inflammation, bleeding, loose teeth, and bone loss. Based on our findings, we determine the stage of your periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease, characterized by inflamed, tender gums that bleed easily, often accompanied by plaque buildup. If untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, where plaque hardens into tartar (calculus), causing gum recession, deeper gum pockets, and early bone loss. In the most advanced stage, advanced periodontitis, there is significant destruction of the gums, bone, and ligament tissues, leading to loose teeth and severe bone loss.
